Achieving Summer Goals in Just 5 Simple Steps

Realizing a dream goal is a rewarding, worthwhile experience. However, for many when they try to manifest a goal, or perhaps that long awaited vacation, it never seems to materialize. It becomes just another good idea that gets "put on the shelf". Why do so many people NOT take action?

People have worthy goals that they want to accomplish but for some unknown reason their dreams never see the light of day. Many of us live our lives in a flurry of activities & work overload. We tend to be on autopilot with set routines and far too many responsibilities. It would make sense then that few people set goals, so why would they even contemplate taking the time to develop a strategy? What would happen if they did? What if they took it one step further by visualizing? If that was the case, they would then be working with their marvelous mind and would have shifted into high gear!

Visualizing is an effective method that enables you to create "pictures in your mind" of an upcoming event or that goal you truly want to achieve. You see once you make a decision to commit to that idea, it will then begin to take on a "mind of its own". The goal that you desire becomes not just a thought anymore, but an idea that slowly and surely begins to manifest into physical form. In over 35 years of study, this is by far the coolest idea I’ve ever been taught.

This mental process can be displayed in almost every aspect of your life. From building a picture of your daily routine to booking a worldwide trip. To attracting wealth & prosperity or the ideal companion to share your life with. In my experience the only reason your goals may not come into fruition is simply because you stopped focusing on that idea and changed the picture!

A great example of this is, my family decided to go hot air ballooning this summer in memory of my dad. Experiencing a hot air balloon ride was something he always wanted to do. So, our family decided we would go for him. The flight had been cancelled several times due to poor weather conditions and we were discouraged and very frustrated thinking we may not be able to go.

However, instead of quitting and cancelling the flight we persevered. We did not "change the picture" but rather we held fast and continued to visualize us taking the flight. Our family have used the visualization process for many years. In fact, our two kids have been taught this skill ever since they were young. Needless to say, we were enjoying the flight even before we got in that little wicker basket.

We were successful in experiencing the amazing peace, that blissful quiet and serenity way above the earth floating effortlessly up in the clouds. In reflection, I found this experience quite surreal. Another goal achieved! Here are a few effective tips I have been using that will support you.

1. Make a decision & choose what you want.

2. Write down your goals in the present tense.

3. Visualize yourself with the goal & experience the sensation in your mind. This will crystalize the idea which propels you forward to the goals completion.

4. Read your goal with constant repetition to keep you focused on the end result.

5. Make a commitment to pursue the goal and get on with the work.

That’s it in a nut shell.

Try the above technique for yourself. You’ll be surprised how quickly your wishes come true. Lastly, remember to celebrate and savor the experience before you move on to your next big accomplishment!

"The purpose of life is to live it, to reach out eagerly without fear for newer and richer experiences." Eleanor Roosevelt

Quote #91

Build an Internal Shelter

This week, I witnessed something that demonstrated how tenuous our sense of peace and calm can be.

A coaching client, whom we’ll call Trish, sat before me despondent. Less than 15 minutes earlier, she was hopeful about how things were beginning to progress with your entrepreneurial efforts. She felt like she was finally finding her voice.

But now, she sat quiet and a bit distant. What changed?

In the midst of her sharing about her new possibilities, her father’s sad business experience came to mind. He had several brilliant ideas over the years, but time and again, his insecurity stopped him before he got started on them.

Instead of engaging in the demanding work of birthing an idea, Trish’s father would soothe his fears and insecurity by boasting about the brilliance of his idea instead of taking the action that manifesting a dream requires. People listening to her father’s boasting would take his ideas and successfully implement them.

Trish had watched this dynamic happen at least three times and unconsciously believed that her father’s failure was her destiny.

As she sat before me, I saw a worthy, successful woman be reduced to boogieman thoughts and despair. At that moment, she and her father were the same.

What she needed was distance between her habitual fearful thoughts and the truth: she was not her father; her fear belonged to her younger self.

Creating the life we want requires us to challenge our beliefs and mental habits. When the mind is hijacked by habitual panic or fear, we must remind ourselves of the truth and consciously work to free ourselves of the untrue. (In my book, The Little Book of Big Lies, I call such distortions lies.)

If you’re easily knocked off-center, there are things you can do to shift your energy quickly. For example, the next time something disturbs your inner peace, try this…

Bring your attention to your breath. Consciously slow your inhales and lengthen the exhales. This will help get you out of your head and into your body and heart. If you feel tense in an area of your body, lovingly rub that area. Soon, your shoulders will soften, your heart will slow, and your mind will begin to quiet. With the compassion you would show a child, tell yourself the truth.

Here is Trish’s truth statement: I am not my father. His story is not my story. Up until now, my younger self’s fear has directed my thoughts, but from this point forward, this can change for the better. I can create my success.

Though you will likely still feel saddened, anxious, or whatever emotion you felt before this intervention, there will be enough space to acknowledge the old story that is running and your feelings without buying into them. With the separation between yourself and the historical feelings, you create space for new possibilities.

Every moment you spend being present with yourself, you create a shelter. You’re building your capacity to be with and transform your experiences, no matter how stormy the conditions are outside. The more you use inner fitness practices to help you navigate life, the better you will become at managing challenging situations as they arise.

It takes practice and often some discomfort to install new patterns that allow you to stretch into the next best iteration of yourself, but with awareness and consistency, you can do it.

Let’s LIVE WELL & THRIVE!

The "Art of Giving" A Key Component to Success

People often wonder why some individuals get ahead in life and excel in everything they do while others question why they don’t get better results & they struggle. What is the secret to living a successful life? There is a key ingredient to being successful but interestingly enough it is not what most people would think. Although there are many components that involve a life of success & prosperity, the common thread many people have discovered is the genuine Art of Giving.

"Giving is the master key to success, in all applications of life" Bryant McGill

Researchers have found that those individuals who are true "givers", who have freely given their time, donated money, or even just shared a kind comment or gesture to someone in need have reported greater self esteem, lower levels of stress and is less prone to depression. But does "giving" make you any happier? Yep, it most certainly does. When the covid pandemic started years ago our company decided to do a fundraising campaign to thank the nursing staff at the Ontario hospitals. Hundreds of dollars in free product were given away thanking the staff for their unprecedented service. From the reviews we received they were appreciative of our generosity which made us very happy!

When you add value to another person’s life it will in fact move your own life upwards reaching new heights. Subsequently the good you provide will return to you ten-fold with abundance, better health, & happiness. How many times have you been patiently waiting at a Tim Hortons drive thru (a Canadian coffee franchise) and some wonderful soul in front of you buys you a coffee?! Smiling ear to ear you are thinking, "well, that’s unorthodox behavior!" Lol, it’s so unusual as very few people do it! Those caring, thoughtful individuals are "paying it forward". This beautiful act of kindness starts a chain reaction of generosity providing a proven, positive ripple effect towards others.

I’m sure if you look back in your own life, you’ll recall great acts of kindness that you as the giver have either contributed to, or have been the recipient of. In my own lifetime I can clearly remember several considerate people who displayed unprecedented acts of kindness towards me, far beyond normal generosity. Like many who have experienced such kindness you will never forget those people as they made such an impact on your life. More importantly that gesture of giving, that memory of kindness you experienced will be fondly remembered for a lifetime.

One person in particular that comes to mind who recently passed away and who would have been celebrating his 88th birthday is Bob Proctor. Many will know him as a famous international icon in the personal development industry, a milestone in human potential. I had the great honor & privilege of working with him over 3 decades ago and was in awe of his inspiring, undeniable positive attitude, his strength of character and blessed, giving nature. Aside from his powerful personality he possessed, as well as his marvelous, unparalleled mind, Bob Proctor was a true "giver" in every sense of the word.

"At the end it’s not about what you have or even what you’ve accomplished. It’s about who you have lifted up, who you have made better. It’s all about what you give back." Denzel Washington

I hope you too will meet someone in your life that is as kind and as much a role model to learn from as I have experienced. That you will remember with much gratefulness how that generosity created a positive impact on your life and may it continue to move you upward towards your dreams and goals. More importantly, just like a beautiful chain reaction, you too will "pay it forward" and share the "Art of Giving" towards others.

Quote #78

Is Happiness Around the Corner?

For a lot of people, happiness is just around the corner. They just need to get their degree, a particular job, a promotion, or a raise. Maybe they’re waiting to get married or have a child. Perhaps they will be happy when they retire.

Alfred D’ Souza said, "For a long time it seemed to me that life was about to begin. But there was always some obstacle in the way, something to be gotten through first, some unfinished business, time still to be served, or a debt to be paid. Then life would begin. At last it dawned on me that these obstacles were my life." John Lennon put it another way, "Life is what happens while you are making other plans."

The point is our lives are happening now. If we are to get the satisfaction and fulfillment we want, we have to learn to draw pleasure and joy from everything that happens to us and around us because these experiences are the very essence of our life. The more conscious we are that life consists of the journey, not the destination, the more likely we are to get the most out of it.

So, if there are things you want to do, begin to fit them in now or accept the fact that you can be happy whether or not you do them.

Happiness isn’t just around the corner. It’s now or it’s never.

The good news is you have everything you need to be happy. Philosophers, poets, and scientists all agree it can’t be attained through money, prestige, or power. Happiness is not a fact… it’s a mindset. All you need is optimism and gratitude.

Believe In Yourself

Ideas and babies have a lot in common when they are newborn; they require a lot of nourishment to survive. A new idea, regardless of its size, may not be able to withstand a beating when you first give it birth.

The next time you set out to do something that is completely out of the norm and the idea driving you is new, there is an important rule which should be followed. Only share your idea with people who will encourage and support you.

Here is an added word of caution. Contrary to popular belief, the individual who will offer the most support is not necessarily a great achiever. It just needs to be someone that you know will give you the mental and emotional support needed.

History records that many of our greatest achievers were not always the strongest supporters of others. Individuals who claim that all things are possible… you can do anything… frequently sang a different tune when the idea was not one they had originated.

Here are a few examples:

In 1899 Charles H. Duell said, "Everything that can be invented has been invented." Duell was the Director of the United States Patent office that year.

In 1927 Harry M. Warner of Warner Brothers Pictures said, "Who the hell wants to hear actors talk?"

In 1923 Robert Milliken suggested, "There is no likelihood man can ever tap the power of the atom." We gave him the Nobel Prize for physics that year.

This is not an uncommon phenomenon. Think of how often one of your superiors shot your suggestions full of holes, only to find out later the same idea earned great profits for your company. If you believe in your own ideas, that is all that is required. You don’t need the approval of others.

The Wright Brothers were not swayed nor stopped by Lord Kelvin who was President of the Royal Society in 1895 when he said, "Heavier than air flying machines are impossible."

And, Grover Cleveland would be banned on sight today by at least half of the population with the advice he gave in 1905, "Sensible and responsible women do not want to vote."

Many of these people did great things but they were often wrong when it came to others’ abilities. Believe in yourself and your ideas and only share your ideas with those who will encourage and support you.

Quote #49

The Power of the Heart

Most of my adult life, I’ve thought of my heart as just an organ in my body that thrived on low-cholesterol foods and occasional daily exercise. I also believed if I didn’t take care of my heart, I would die early, the way my father did at age 56.

My view of my heart, however, changed recently when I watched a film by Drew Heriot, the director of the movie The Secret. I knew that this new film would be special because Drew and Author/Producer Baptist de Pape had come together to create a movie that was 5 years in the making. I planned my week around watching the movie, picking a Saturday afternoon when I would have time to lock the front door of my condo, turn my phone off and sit on my hardly ever sat upon sofa. What I forgot, however, were the tissues. Nobody told me that I might need them, too.

As the film began, I was swept into a story of a young samurai and his quest for heaven, as he was living in his own private hell. He sought out the help of a sage who guided him on a journey of self-discovery, a journey from his head to his heart.

As the film progressed, the samurai and I were guided and mentored by some of the most influential spiritual teachers of our time, including Paulo Coelho, Mark Nepo, Immaculee Ilibagiza and Isabel Allende, to name a few. Dr. Maya Angelou told me "If you don’t know what to do, do nothing. Don’t fill your time with trivia." She smiles. "Simply do nothing. Simply sit. Don’t do anything and you may be able to hear your heart." I leaned in closer to the screen and also learned from Maya that I can actually talk to my heart. I asked myself: If I could hear my heart, what would it say? When my heart finally answered, would I have the courage to listen and, better yet, do what my heart was telling me? I soon realized that my heart needs more than a low- fat diet and exercise; it needs to be nurtured.

Eckhart Tolle, another film co-creator, joined me on this wonderful Saturday afternoon journey, telling me that The Power of the Heart will connect you with who you are at the deepest level. Like many people, I have done some personal work over the last 30 years to figure out how to do this, and now I finally understood that the journey to connect with myself lies in my heart, not in my head. That Saturday afternoon I also learned about the scientific proof, through the Heart Math Institute, that my heart is much more than a physical organ. As we live through our heart, we can actually transform our views of money, health, relationships, and success. The heart is an inexhaustible source of love and wisdom that far surpasses that of the mind. I am fully on board.

As I witnessed the emotion of the samurai and the teachers in the film, I heard tales of great hardship and even the horrors of war (physical and self imposed). I learned that I can forgive others, as well as myself. I found myself thinking of all the times I was mad at someone. Did it really matter? What toll did it take on my body, and whom did that welled-up anger serve? In the end we discover the power of forgiveness and the healing it brings not just to us but to the world as well.

I reached for another tissue. I was not sad. I was moved. Maybe I was becoming enlightened, as years of anger and self-doubt were being understood and examined as I continued down the path with a now-expanding heart.

As your journey begins, if you find the courage to ask your heart the questions, your heart will surely give you the answers you need to go forward. Relationships will heal. You will find grace in forgiving an enemy, and you will realize it is okay to just sit and be. Don’t we all want to see the good in people? The Power of the Heart calls us to explore ourselves and discover the treasures we hold in our chest, revealing that with an open heart anything is possible.

By the end of the movie I became a Samurai, changed forever. I found hope that I can mend my strained relationship with my daughter. I learned that total strangers can complete bucket lists and that my heart is more than a glob of tissue pumping in my chest.

My heart opened, and I was speechless. I resolved to sit on the couch more often. Needing a good five minutes to reflect on all the lessons I learned in 90 minutes, I was glad I locked the door and turned off the phone. As the credits rolled for The Power of the Heart, I realized my journey from my head to my heart is just the beginning and a wonderful way to begin my 57th year.

Michele works very closely with Baptist de Pape. De Pape explores the realm of the heart and what it means to live from that space, rather than living merely from the head. This change of emphasis led directly to some astonishingly synchronistic events.

From his spiritual awakening blossomed the concept of a movie in which he would interview the leading spiritual teachers, authors, and scientists of today. Baptist went on to film and become good friends with many of his interviewees and was generously helped by Gary Zukav, Eckhart Tolle, Maya Angelou, Isabel Allende, and others. Quote #32

The Law of Opposites

The last two years have been challenging for many people for many reasons. As the law of opposites decrees, if something is very bad, the opposite side of it is very good. But sometimes you must look for the good, be aware that there is good and harvest the good.

In 2021 I was diagnosed with cancer and entered a treatment plan, that I assumed, would be a breeze. It was nowhere close to being a breeze, but from the diagnosis onward, I chose to find the good and to look for the blessings. The great news is, there were many blessings in this experience and one of blessings lead me to write my twentieth book Savy Wisdom 2: The Sequel.

It was Napoleon Hill who said, "Every adversity, every failure, every heartache carries with it the seed of an equal or greater benefit."

When I received my diagnosis, I returned home from the hospital and crawled into bed. It was the middle of the afternoon. After pulling the covers over my head, and feeling consumed by fear, my phone rang. I looked at the call display and it showed Bob Proctor’s iPhone. It was Bob Proctor calling me at that precise moment. I remember thinking "how does he know to call me now?" Bob was so tuned in.

Rather than rewrite the experience from that day, allow me to share a short segment from my newest book Savy Wisdom 2: The Sequel. (Savy is based on Bob Proctor and Sophie’s character is based on me).

[beginning of the excerpt starts with answering the call from Bob]

"Remember that lump in my neck? Remember I told you that I was going to the hospital for a biopsy to have it checked out? Well, I went to my doctor this morning for the results, and he has informed me it is cancerous," I cried.
In a gentle yet stern voice, Savy responded, "You are crying over something that you don’t even have all of the information for. You are getting way ahead of yourself, and you are putting your energy where it doesn’t belong—on fear. You must focus. What would you love, Sophie? You’ve heard me ask you that question before, many times, and it is more important now than ever that you focus only on the outcome that you desire, regardless of what the test results show. Please don’t misunderstand me. I am not suggesting ignoring the recommendations of the medical professionals, but you are in control of your thoughts and feelings, and I strongly suggest you get in control right now, young lady!"

Savy continued, "What are you doing right now? Where are you?"

"At home. I’m lying on my bed."

"Get up! Get up right now!" he demanded. "Go into your office and write this down."

Savy waited as I walked down the hallway to where my office was located in my home. I sat down at my desk and said, "Okay, I’m now in my office, pen in hand, and ready to write."

I knew enough to follow his instructions. Every time Savy suggested that I do something, I followed through. His advice always produced amazing results. This man knew what he was talking about. He was a self-made billionaire who came from nothing and created success in every area of his life. His results spoke for themselves.

"Ready?" he asked.

"Yes, ready."

"Write this statement down: I am so happy and so grateful that there is only perfect health in every part of my body. I choose to mentally move from my head to my toes setting up a positive healthy vibration. Every molecule of my body is vibrating in perfect harmony with all the good I desire. It is so. Thank you."

I wrote down every word.

"Now, I want you to put that statement somewhere visible so that you see it every day. Perhaps leave it on your desk or tape it to the keyboard on your computer. But here’s the most important part: when you read it, feel it. Feel the result with every ounce of your being regardless of what is going on. You can use this statement to switch from negative to positive, out of fear and back into faith. And remember, I am here for you. As you go through this next phase of your life, look for the blessings. In every adversity, there is a seed of greatness. It may not seem like it at the time, but believe me, there are going to be many great and valuable blessings and lessons to come out of this experience."

I wrote down, "Great and valuable blessings and lessons come from this experience."

"Everything that you have created in your life, Sophie, from your dream home to your best-selling book, and building a very successful, thriving business, all came because of your effort. You know how to get the results you desire, even when there is no evidence of it in sight. The same energy to create a successful business can be used to create a successful outcome with your health. It is a matter of desire, decision, focus, and energy. You know how to do this, Sophie. I believe in you, and I believe in perfect health for you."

"Thank you, Savy. I am grateful for you," I said from my heart. "You are literally a life-saver in more ways than you know."

[end of excerpt]

To find out what happened next, I suggest you get the book Savy Wisdom 2: The Sequel (wink).

I feel so blessed to have met the incredible Bob Proctor more than forty-three years ago. As a result of Bob Proctor’s teachings, my life has been transformed in extraordinarily positive ways. Can one person make a difference in your life? One man made a massive positive difference in mine. I believe he saved my life, more than once.

Look at the challenges, and adversities you’ve experienced in your life. What are the blessings from those experiences? What can you learn from it? What will you do with it? Is it as simple as taking lemons and making lemonade? Sometimes it is.

Quote #18

Finding God in the Park

Abe was fiercely independent, even at age 85, but after a mild stroke his son insisted he move in with him. Abe missed going to the park near his old apartment, and one Saturday he set out to find it.

When he became disoriented, he asked a young boy named Timmy where the park was. Timmy said he’d like to take him there, but he didn’t have time because he was looking for God. He said he needed to talk to Him about why his parents were getting a divorce.

"Maybe God’s in the park," the old man said. "I’d like to talk to Him, too, about why He’s made me useless." And so they set off together to find God.

At the park, Timmy began to cry about the divorce, and Abe lovingly held his face in both hands and looked him straight in the eyes. "Timmy, I don’t know why bad things happen, but I know it wasn’t because of you. I know you’re a good boy and your parents love you and they will always love you. I know you will be okay."

Timmy gave Abe a big hug and said, "I’m so glad I met you. Thanks. I think I can go now."

From across the street, Timmy’s mother saw them hug and approached her son in a worried voice. "Who was that old man?"

"I think he’s God," Timmy said.

"Did he say that?" she demanded.

"No, but when he touched me and told me I’m going to be okay, I felt really better. Only God can do that."

When Abe got home, his son asked in a scolding voice, "Where were you?"

"I was in the park with God."

"Really? What makes you think you were with God?"

"Because He sent me a boy who needed me, and when the boy hugged me, I felt God telling me I wasn’t useless anymore."
